Betty's Country Kitchen of Washingtonville suffers fire.

Sunday June 14 2020 - WASHINGTONVILLE (caloremedia) : At approximately 2 pm Sunday June 14th an individual called 911 stating they see smoke coming from Betty's County Kitchen. At the time the restaurant was not open and nobody was inside. Quickly after this multiple 911 calls came in from other people seeing smoke coming from the building. An additional called from the Dunkin parking lot said they saw heavy black smoke coming from the building. Quickly the Village of Washingtonville police arrived on scene and confirmed smoke showing. Shortly after that the Washingtonville Fire Department arrived and declared it a second alarm structure fire. Fire fighters quickly stretched lines and entered the building. They entered to heavy smoke conditions with a fire in the basement. The fire had extended into the walls and up a stairwell but was quickly contained to the basement and knocked down. Departments from Washingtonville, Monroe, Vails Gate, Chester, South Blooming Grove, and Salisbury Mills were all on scene. Blooming Grove Ambulance was staged across the street ready to assist. The Washingtonville fire police closed the road and directed traffic.

As of 24 hours from the fire, over $22,000 has been raised for Kevin Radday's restaurant. Kevin named the place Betty's after his Mother. She passed away shortly after the restaurant opened in 2014. His restaurant is a staple to the Washingtonville community. From hiring local students and teaching them food service experience, to the numerous community events he hosts and is a key part of.
