9/11 Memorial and Saint Mary's Sign Vandalized

July 8th 2020 - WASHINGTONVILLE (caloremedia) This early Wednesday morning village residents were shocked to find that the light of day revealed the 9/11 Memorial at the corner of Ahearn and Washington blvd was vandalized. Police, the village DPW, and village government were quickly there to investigate. The flag police was knocked down by what looks like power equipment. The police documented the scene and found a

graffiti message left on the pole. It was taken by the police and is now in their custody. The flag was soiled and will be taken to the VFW to dispose of properly.

While this investigation was going on a call was made about more vandalism being found at the Saint Mary's Parish Center located up Ahearn near Brotherhood Winery. This location is now home to the Little Lambs Day Care, Country Thrift Store and Food Pantry. Upon arrival, the entrance sign was found knocked over on the ground. This time it looked like it was pushed over with brute force. The eagle that went on the top of the flag pole was also found impaled into the ground next to the sign. The sign was on the ground and broken in multiple sections. It was photographed and removed as evidence by the police department. Apparent had prints were found on the sign and were preserved in the removal. When the sign was lifted off the ground another hate message was found on the back. Later after, another hate message was found on the back of the new sign at the Saint Mary's Center.

The Village is asking anyone with information to please come forward and contact the Washingtonville Police at 845-496-9123 . If anyone has any security cameras please check the night of the 7th into the morning of the 8th for anything suspicious. An award is being offered for information that leads to an arrest or conviction of the individual(s) that did this cowardly acts.
